Benoît Cerexhe is Brussels Region Minister for Employment and Research

Benoît Cerexhe studied law at the Université Catholique de Louvain. At the age of 21, he became the youngest Communal Councillor in Belgium, after being elected for Woluwe Saint Pierre. In 1988, he was appointed Deputy Burgmaster for Employment, Personnel and IT, in Woluwe Saint Pierre, a position that he held for 12 years. From 1999 to 2003, he was chairman of the group PSC-CDH in the Council of the Brussels Capital Region. He was appointed Minister for Economy, Employment and Scientific Research in 2004. Until July 2009, he also assumed the role of President of the College of the French Community Commission, in charge of health and public services. In mid-July 2009, he was back in government once again to take up a ministerial role taking on business policy, and inside as well as outside the Brussels Region. He’s also President of the EU Competitiveness Council-Research.
